Tears, Triumphs and Treats

I’ve just returned from another short jaunt to Panama City to help my friend prepare for and celebrate her mother’s 91st birthday by throwing at party at her nursing home.

Fiesta

The birthday girl in the red hat watching her nephew dance with one of the residents.

It was an emotional few days, we both shed a few tears with the knowledge that her mother is fading slowly.  The triumph of the day was how the birthday girl perked up a little, clapping her hands and singing when the music of the mariachi band began to play.  The treat, well the treat wasn’t the food, or the music or the decorations.  No, it was being able to support my friend through the mixed emotions of joy, fear, sadness, exhaustion and everything in between…

  1. I’m glad you were there for your friend. It is always a very hard thing to see and deal with. ((HUGS))

Thank you. When she asked me to come I couldn’t say no even though there was a spay and neuter event the same weekend. I knew we had enough volunteers that I wouldn’t be missed and although my friend has lots of cousins, who are fantastic in their own way, I knew that she needed someone that could help her do the “heavy lifting”. 🙂

  2. Good friends are there through joy and tears, you are a good friend!

The rest of the family really came through by setting up and helping us tear it all down. It was a wonderful day. 🙂

  4. Time with friends and family is priceless.

Yes, it was good to see so many cousins there. The knowledge that this might be the last celebration with Tia Ceci was bittersweet. 🙂

I'd love to hear from you!
