A man who was completely innocent, offered himself as a sacrifice for the good of others, including his enemies, and became the ransom of the world. It was a perfect act.  ~ Mahatma Gandhi ~

The statue of Black Christ is a national symbol of Panama.   In the Iglesia de San Felipe in Portobelo where the original Black Christ is, people from all over Central America make a pilgrimage to see it on the 21st of October during the Feast Day of the Cristo Negro de Portobelo.

This statue of the  Black Christ is in the blue waters between Isla Grande and the mainland not far from the original statue.  At Christ’s feet is a carved pelican symbolizing sacrifice,  atonement and charity.
