I’ve posted several time about our friends the geckos. It’s Dry Season and they aren’t as prevalent as they are during Wet Season (aka Super Buggielicious Season) as their food supply is somewhat depleted. As with most critters, more food more critters, less food, less critters. Ain’t nature grand? We still have several that hang around outside catching the occasional bugs around the lights and I think we have one or two hatch-lings somewhere in the house that have eluded the sharp eyes of Dos Gatos.
Every time I hear these little guys skittering around inside the house and chirping, yes geckos chirp, I think it’s saying; “Hola, want to hook up?” I envision that soon 50 more geckos will be running around the inside of my house, leaving me more gecko “presents” to remove.
Geckos are pretty fascinating little critters though and do help to keep the bug population down. Come May and June I’ll appreciate the symbiotic relationship that we’ve developed with the Gecko Gang as they add to their numbers and cling to the patio walls annihilating the weekly hatching’s of various flying pests. Come to think of it, maybe there is a way I can carry one in front of me at night while the Brown Bombarding Bugs or Flying Ants are in season. That would be a site to see…in the campo.

My first encounter with geckos was on a trip to Australia. I remember sitting outside at a restaurant in Port Douglas thinking how cute they were (there were many, sooooo many). In retrospect I think we were lucky we didn’t have “presents” dropping from the roof into our meal. 🙂
That’s very cool. Geckos eat spiders though? I need to talk with mine about increasing the spider consumption in the house.
LOL! I’ve seen them eating flying and crawling bugs but I’ve never seen them eating spiders around here either.
