Talk Thursday ~ Boogie Boarding

Think left and think right and think low and think high.                                           Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!                                                                              ~ Dr. Seuss ~

This afternoon, SU and I finally made it out to the waves to try our new boogie boards therefore; today’s talk isn’t so much of a talk as some instruction.

Being ahem…more advanced in age and having lived most of our lives land locked, boogie boarding has become a bit of an adventure for us.  Neither of us feel quite up to trying surfing, especially me, who has inherited the genetic predisposition of klutziness from mi padres side of the family.  (Apologies to my relatives, but it’s true and you know it.)

We also aren’t so adventurous as the young people in the video (and the awesome boogie boarders in our little community).  We’re not at the “catch the wave” boogie board level but more like the “catch the whitewater after the wave” level.  Both are fun rides but the latter is a little less jarring if one should fall.  Although, I did take one good tumble today that ripped one of my treasured Lululemon headbands off my noggin and into the great blue ocean and flipped my board.  Also, note to self, remove all jewelry next time as I lost an earring.  😦

More pictures to come later but for today I present the “instructional video” with young people who actually know what they are doing.

It is, although one must be careful of “face planting” at the end of the ride! 🙂

for Karen: Eons ago I used to body surf at the Jersey shore, and recall face planting and getting a mouth and nose full of sand when the wave flipped me the wrong way. A small price to pay for catching the perfect ride, even if only once in awhile.

OH, I needed that!!! This is a major reason I am planning a trip to your area soon.Grew up surfing, and with age, have learned to enjoy the B_board. Been land locked a long time, life’s too short!!!

So are you now going to be keeping track of the tides, you will need a tides table, check out Abernathy’s website, I think that he has one.
