This Used to Go Somewhere

StaircaseRemnants of an old staircase of the cathedral at the site of Panamá Viejo, part of the heritage district of Panama and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  The settlement was founded in 1519 by Pedro Arias Dávila and 100 other inhabitants, making it the first permanent European settlement on the Pacific ocean.

Taking the first step on this staircase these days will make for a very quick descent.
